Magdalena Haftner
Born in Lower Austria in 1988, she lives in Austria (Vienna) and Ecuador (Quito). She is an educational scientist, theatre maker and educator within and outside Europe in collaboration with Goethe Institutes, Austrian and German embassies, (inter)national schools, universities and cultural and educational institutions. In Berlin and London she completed her studies at LISPA (London International School of Performing Arts), founded by Thomas Prattki on the foundations of Jacques Lecoq's physical theatre technique. She completed her training as a theatre pedagogue at IFANT (Institute of Applied Theatre) in Vienna and received her diploma degree (BA, MA) in Educational Science at the University of Vienna, specialising in social and inclusive education. Magdalena is one of the founding members of the improvisation theatre group "artig" from Vienna, with whom she has developed various improvisation theatre formats ("Aus dem Nähkästchen", "To the Moon", "PLAY", "Hier und Jetzt" / "Right here, right now! ", "artige Geschichten" / "artig cuenta cuentos "," artig entdeckt ", "artig out of space", "Die Familie Kellermann Trilogie") in German, English and Spanish at locations in Europe, Latin America, Asia and Africa. Since 2011, she has been exploring the potential of improvisation for foreign language teaching and learning with "SpielendDeutsch" workshops and further trainings. Since then she has been invited to Goethe-Instituts in Russia, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Hungary, Italy, Ireland, Estonia, India, Iran, Argentina, Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras. In 2013, she toured with the children's theatre piece "K.B.M. - Kleine bunte Männchen" developed by "artig" and "RITMICA VIENA" and the improvisation show "artige Geschichten" for four months through German, Austrian and Swiss schools and educational institutes in South America and the following year for three months through Central America. From 2014-2023 she has been working as co producer and theatre and movement teacher for the dance and theatre project for children and young people with and without refugee experience "TheaterFlucht Österreich". Since 2015 she has been performing in the duo "Compañía Wunderbar" with "Estudio Tornattori" and "Pasa la voz!" in Ecuador. In Vienna, she is a member of the body and mask theatre ensemble "Labor für kreatives Theater", which celebrated the premiere in 2016 and the revival of her first play "Die Widersprüche sind die Hoffnung" in 2017. In 2017-2018 she taught Voice, Movement, Storytelling and Puppetry at "Durga's Tiger School for Yoga, Art & Shamanism" in Ecuador. In 2019, she is touring the bilingual interactive play for young audiences of Compañía Wunderbar "Frau HUM & Herr BOLDT" in Ecuador. In 2020, she developed online workshop formats that merge video and performance art, cooperating with Goethe-Instituts/PASCH. In 2020, she created the collective trilingual video project [Between Doors], documenting the experience in times of lockdown as a creative process between continents. A total of 40 people from 7 countries participated. In 2022/23 she got funded by the Austrian Embassy of Bogotá, created and toured with the multilingual theatre piece "Todo basura! / Alles Mist! / All trash!" in Ecuador. Since 2022/23 she has been involved in body-oriented therapeutic trauma work and began her training in Somatic Experiencing© according to Peter Levine. Since 2023 she is forming part as production member and group co facilitator of CaminoCreativo. Otherwise she sings, enjoys nature, sews, writes, practices ukulele, pan flute and accordion, loves (acro) yoga and dances contact improvisation.
